I am horrified to hear about how many people are buying all the false information about the waste and fraud being uncovered by DOGE. And I am the last person who would defend waste and fraud, anywhere.

FYI, we've always had a "DOGE". It's called the office of the Auditor General, whose senior director is appointed by the government of the day, then approved by the other parties with official status. They produce an official report annually. it's done through a democratic process based on the person's merits, unlike Elon Musk, which was based on his ability to buy the presidency.

If that's not the kind of system you want to live in, then the USA will be more than happy to welcome you.

It's disturbing how many Musk apologists have commented here and are clearly buying the official propaganda because it dovetails nicely with their preconceived notions of government being wasteful.

So what you're trying to tell me is that within a mere 55 days, twenty (yes, only twenty, look it up) twenty-somethings with not even a moments worth of experience about government operations, managed to fire 100,000 people in twenty two departments because they found so much egregious "waste".

Yeah. Right.

I don't care if a Tesla could wash the dishes, the behaviour of their CEO is reprehensible and the company needs to go down in flames. If that Nazi salute wasn't enough for the Tesla owners, then I question people's moral compasses.

If nothing else, we have to entertained by the farce that is Trump. How can one emphatically say they don't need anything from Canada in one breath, and then turn around in the next saying we need to be their 51st state? It would be a comedy if it weren't so insane.

I have a guesthouse in downtown Barrie. Many are international travellers. Most of my guests have cars and the LCBO on Mary is the closest. Each one of them has to endure that excuse for a road. What a terrible message it sends to out-of-towners. They can only conclude that we're so poor we can't even afford decent streets. Shameful and a total embarrassment.

NIMBYism in its textbook form.

What these irate residents don't realize is a lot of those single family dwellings are also going to end up as rentals anyway. So much for their misguided theory.

Putting the absolutely hideous architectural expression aside, I hope the developer did their market research. Three bedroom condos in downtown Barrie? What family could afford such a suite, and even if they could, why would they choose such an environment given Barrie is covered in three bedroom houses in neighbourhoods not rife with violence, addicts and the chronically homeless.

What is your pre-tax household income?

If one accounts for inflation, $60k per year is hovering around subsistence. Better than mimimum wage yes, but certainly not thriving. This is a glaring case of how corporate interests have been pandered to by our various levels of government over the past 40 years, and they've allowed them to run roughshod over the average worker. Add to this that the marginal tax rate system hasn't adjusted for this reality and treats someone earning $60k as being "rich" and are they're subsequently being penalized tax-wise. It's criminal.

If your local politician isn't talking about reforming the marginal tax system, then tell them to take a hike.

Perhaps. But in all likelihood those in that income bracket are too buy trying to survive and don't have the luxury of leisurely reading local news.
