'World's happiest festival' makes its debut in Sault Ste. Marie

Participants throw brightly-coloured powder while being encouraged to dance and sing along to music

The Sault's first-ever Festival of Colours festival is being held on Sunday at the Roberta Bondar Pavilion.

Dubbed 'the world's happiest festival' by organizers, participants are urged to sing and dance along with performers and to throw brightly-coloured powder into the air to celebrate the changing of the seasons.

The festival has been held for a number of years in Thunder Bay, but this year marks the first time organizers have brought it to the Sault.

About 50 people were in attendance at the beginning of the event on Sunday, throwing the brightly-coloured powder to music.

The festival's roots come from the Holi festival in India. Participants are encouraged to joyfully cast away bad feelings and throw worries to the wind.

The festival runs until 3 p.m.
