Stunning photos capture 'magical and terrifying' ice storm (12 photos)

Life-long Orillia resident ventured out, carefully, at the height of the storm, to capture the event's beauty before it turned into devastation

ORILLIA - Before the devastation, there was beauty.

The ice storm that felled trees, scarred the landscape and left residents without power for days provided many challenges for people in Orillia and throughout central Ontario.

But on the weekend of March 29-30, when the rain turned to ice, Orillia was gilded in ice. It was, frankly, dazzling.

Dave Saunders, a lifetime resident of Orillia, could not stay inside. He grabbed his camera and, very carefully, photographed various parts of the city.

"It was both magical and terrifying, but a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me at least," said Saunders, who is thrilled to share his photographs.
