Rain rain, go away: Flamborough floods as Hurricane Beryl moves through region

Reader photos and videos show the extent of flooding on local properties this week

FLAMBOROUGH - The sun may be out for the afternoon, but Flamborough could be in for another heavy rainfall this evening.

Over the past two days, around 60mm to 80mm of rain hit the area, causing road closures and flooding around the city.

Sulphur Springs Rd at Mineral Springs Rd, Syndenham Rd at the top of the escarpment and Fallsview Road in Greensville were all closed Monday afternoon from flooding.

Parking lots throughout the region were underwater, like the Starbucks parking lot at Clappison's Corners (video courtesy of resident Courtney Bearman).

Across the region, basements, gardens, fields, backyards and ditches and culverts filled with water. FlamboroughToday readers sent in their photos and videos.

Residents shared concerns on Tuesday that Monday and Tuesday morning's rain has left a lot of the ground saturated and primed for more severe flooding. Residents like Krystal McMaster were hit hard, with their backyards flooding out.

Throughout Tuesday morning, residents took to social media to warn others about downed tree limbs covering some rural roads. Thunderstorms are expected to roll back in through the region on Tuesday night.

Alysha Macdonald, a Waterdown resident who sent in a photo of her flooded walk-in basement, said the town certainly lived up to its name this week.

Another resident, Chantelle Vezina, shared a video of her garden underwater from the flooding on Monday evening.

Millgrove resident Jennifer Powell shared a video of the flooding at Wyatt Road.

And while Environment Canada has removed the Rainfall Warning issues earlier today, there is a 40 per cent chance of showers in Flamborough this evening, with a possible thunderstorm after midnight.
