Residents near Appleby and New Street reported missing mailboxes in a Burlington community Facebook group.

You’re not alone if you’ve noticed a few missing mailboxes in the New Street and Appleby Line area lately.

Reports of mailboxes being removed in the neighbourhood were posted in the Facebook group Burlington Together, with community members saying they have been taken out due to damage and vandalism.

“We have checked with local operations and confirmed that there have been some street letter boxes that have been removed as they were damaged and unrepairable,” Lisa Liu, media relations representative for Canada Post wrote in an email. “We will install new street letter boxes once they are available.”

No timeline for the new mailboxes was provided. But Liu added Canada Post regularly reviews the use of street letter boxes, and some boxes may have been removed to do low usage, and decreased volume of outgoing mail or parcels.

The original Facebook post gathered nearly 100 comments from residents, offering suggestions on where locals can mail their parcels and letters, with the go-to seeming to be the nearby Shoppers Drug Mart.
