HALTON HILLS, Ont. – The CONTACT Photography Festival is just a month away and, once again, a satellite site for the celebration will be developed in Halton Hills.

CONTACT'S local event FORMS, FACES & SPACES, figuratively speaking! will be marking its third year in the municipality. It will launch on May 1 and last the whole month not just in Halton Hills, but also in Caledon. The three locations for viewings are:

  • The Upper Sisnett Lobby at the Halton Hills Cultural Centre (9 Church St., Georgetown)
  • The Pond Gallery at the Alton Mill Arts Centre, Caledon (1402 Queen St W)
  • The Melville White Church in Belfountain (15962 Mississauga Rd.).

Organizer E. Connie Munson says she wanted the “extravaganza of photography and other fine arts” to have a humanitarian theme to bring people together.

Two years ago, she asked the organizers of the CONTACT Photography Festival if she can make the satellite events about other mediums as well, and they agreed.

A reception will be held May 5 in Georgetown’s Cultural Centre starting at 1 p.m., with a musical serenade at 3 p.m. by the duo Ian Chamberlain and Alan Shoesmith.

A similar gathering will take place the same day in Belfountain at 3 p.m. in the Melville White Church. Paul llew-Williams will perform there with his partner Shelisa Akbar.

Norval's St. Paul’s Anglican will have open mic nights every Friday at 7:30 p.m. throughout the month, organized by Glenn McFarlane of the Brampton Folk Club.

Former curator of Georgetown’s Helson Gallery Judy Daley and past president of the Halton Hills Camera Club Greg Coman are the event's curators.

“From over 140 submissions, we selected 80 works by 60 artists working in painting, photography, printmaking and three-dimensional media,” Daley and Coman said in a joint juror’s statement.

Munson, Daley and Ilew-Williams are part of the ad-hoc advisory group for the event, which is being supported by Akimbo and funding from Central Counties Tourism.
